Proposal on "Running Architecture Class in Online Mode"

Discussion:

Proposed plan: Detail of the project

The project highlights the necessary methods and materials that can be applied to run online classes effectively. Due to the ongoing pandemic, COVID-19, classes in real life cannot function in real life. Because of which conducting online classes would be feasible.

Objectives:

  1. To make students indulge into something productive than nothing.
  2. To utilize the time and avoid obstruction in the course.
  3. To familiarize students with web browsers and email programs.
  4. To make sure that learning objectives are appropriate for learners.
Requirements:
  1. Number of teacher according to the necessary subjects.
  2. Number of students as of the class
  3. Apps that can accommodate both teachers and students
  4. Internet access
  5. Microphones
  6. Laptops
Methods:
  1. Firstly, necessary arrangements are to be made by preparing a proper schedule.
  2. Students and teachers are to be notified about suitable software.
  3. General meeting is to be held within the Architecture department and students.
  4. Feasibility of routine should be checked by teachers by consulting with students.
Software such as blackboard, zoom, google meet webCT  would be appropriate as they are easy to use. Moreover, communication can be held among teachers and students for hours in minimum amount of data usage.

Teachers should first give a trial of online class as every student may not be available on the mentioned date and time of initial routine. After the trial, teachers should change the schedule according to the feedbacks given by the students. As the schedule gets finalized, teacher should allocate the time to run classes.

Benefits:

  1. Enhanced Learning: Research shows increased depth of understanding and retention of course content; more meaningful discussions.
  2.  Leveling of the Playing Field: Students can take more time to think and reflect before communicating; shy students tend to thrive online.
  3. Interaction: Increased student-to-teacher and student-to-student interaction and discussion; a more student-centered learning environment.
Outcomes:
  1. Proper flow of course even during the time of pandemic
  2. Better interaction among teachers and students
  3. Time utilisation of both students and teachers with a creative outcome.
Task Schedule:

The preparations for online class would take 3 days. On the first day, the schedule would be provided to the students. On the second day, necessary notes and materials are to be gathered by the course tutors. On the third day, trial should be performed to check if everything is properly set.
